Analysing gestures

UPDD commander is highly configurable with a Default Gesture set defining the default system-wide gestures and actions, along with individual applications / group use to specify gesture / action sets appropriate to their requirements.

In addition to the above, you can also have separate gestures associated with defined application dialog UI elements (areas), such that when the gesture is performed on top of the UI element, the gesture/action is selected from those defined within the UI Element.

These two examples show applications that have inherited the standard list of UI elements, that can form part of an application dialog, plus the addition of a UI element unique to the application:

Dock UI elements Finder UI elements

With this high degree of gesture configurability, it can sometimes be confusing if a performed gesture does not do as expected, and it is sometimes useful to analyse the gesture processing being undertaken by Commander.

To this end, the setting dialog function bar offers an option to show the application selection process based on the next performed gesture on the touch screen and a visualisation of the performed gesture and selection process:

Select next performed gesture

Select this option and perform the gesture. Commander will then reveal the selected target for the gesture, as in this example performing a One Finger Press on the Desktop (the UI element within the Finder Application)

If the gesture is performed on an application that is currently hidden in the Application List you will see this dialog:

You will need to 'Show and Select Gesture' to see the result of the application selection.

If the gesture performed is not defined, the highlighted 'Select next performed gesture' will stay highlighted, indicating this gesture will not be actioned.

This can occur, for example, if you perform a gesture within an application that is defined within the application list but does not contain a gesture definition of the gesture performed.

Gesture visualisation

Introduced with Commander 1.8.0, this feature visualises the gesture being performed and annotates the selection process.

Toggle the 'Visualise Gesture' option as required. Whilst selected, the performed gesture will be annotated as seen in this example, whereby the two finger drag is being performed on top of the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, within the Scrollable area of the application dialog.

Given that the MRDS app is not listed as a separate application within the Commander settings application list, the Two Finger Drag gesture has been selected from the Default Gestures, Scrollable area UI element, and performs a Scroll action.
