Features

When Commander is running its icon, if enabled, is shown in the Menu Bar  or System Tray. This indicates the process is active and ready to process touch events and also offers a number of related functions:

MacOS Menu Bar  Windows System Tray

Menu item  Description
Settings  Commander function configuration and settings.
Output log Shows output from the Commander daemon process that can be useful in analyzing issues that may arise.
History Lists the Commander development history. The change log is also shown on our web site.

Settings...

The settings option is the main user dialog used to configure the Commander functions.

These settings relate to the Applications and their gesture and action settings. They are stored in a persistent file that is retained over a reinstallation of the software and not removed when the software is uninstalled as discussed here.

This dialog is used to setup and configure the functions defined in the function strip:

The usage of the main display area will differ depending on the function selected.

Functions

The usage and configuration of the individual functions are as follows:

Function  Description
Touch  Relates to the processing of the touch events (tap, press, gestures) performed on the touch device.
Toolbars  Toolbar association with a gesture action - under development
Hotkeys  Key sequence association with a gesture action - under development
 Settings  Commander global settings.

File menu

When the Commander settings dialog is active and focused on the desktop the UPDD Commander file menu will be shown:

MacOS
Windows

The main options available from this menu are:

UC  Hide UPDD Commander Hide application dialog.
File  Export All Settings  Exports all Commander settings
   Export All Touch Gestures
 See ** below
Exports all Gesture related settings.
Note: will only be enabled when the Touch function is selected in the function strip
   Export Application
 See ** below
Exports an Application related gesture settings
Note: will only be enabled when an application or Group is selected in the Touch section application list
   Import Settings Import Commander settings
Import Application Settings Import Application settings
Reset All Touch Gestures To Defaults Resets the Application List and gesture settings and actions to default (as set at initial installation on a clean system). Existing application, gesture and action changes will be lost!
Edit  Undo recent change Undoes the most recent change
View  Show Inherited Gestures Show the inherited gestures within an application or group of applications
Show Hidden Application Groups List applications marked as hidden.

Internal UPDD Commander settings are held in the user preferences folder. Import / export options, defined in the file menu above, save the referenced settings in files .ucapp for applications and .ucexp for commander and gesture related settings. Should there be a need to programmatically import exported settings UPDD commander can be invoked with the command line option --import path/to/file.ucexp.

When importing settings from a .ucexp file if the applications do not exist on the host system the application icon will be missing and replaced with a generic application icon.

** Export All Touch Gestures stores all settings in one setting file and Export Application stores an application's settings in one app file.
Should it be desirable to export all currently defined applications to their individual application file (.ucapp) in one request then hold down the Option (macOS)/Alt (Windows) key when selecting the File menu and 'Export All Touch Gestures' is replaced with 'Export all Touch Gestures to Presets'.

Start / stopping the daemon process
