This documents deals will known issues with xdg autostart.
Non standard folder location
Since UPDD V6 version 397 xdg autostart is used to launch updd daemon process if /etc/xdg/autostart folder exists. If this function is supported by your distribution but is in a non standard location then the daemon menu will not appear after a reboot (following install).
This issue can be resolved by copying the UPDD autostart file to the appropriate location by modifying the install script or running a command to perform the copy.
This issue was first observed on Puppy Linux distro and required the follow command:
cp /etc/xdg/autostart/updd_clients.desktop /root/.config/autostart
