This article describes installing UPDD on Windows without using the installer.
This is useful for example for customers using deployment software.
Preparing a package on seed system
The supplied software must be installed using the standard installer.
The contents of the install folder (usually c:\Program Files (x86)\UPDD or c:\Program Files\UPDD on 32 bit systems) must be copied, typically to a zip file but the choice of this is up to the user.
Deploying the package on a target system
The following steps should be followed.
1. Extract the package to the appropriate install folder c:\Program Files (x86)\UPDD for a 64 bit system or c:\Program Files\UPDD on 32 bit systems; here we use pkzip25

2. Copy the icon used by the device manager

3. Install the driver as a service

4. Bootstrap the software (creates the settings database and creates various registry settings

5. Start the service

At this point the service will install the various kernel mode drivers required
